Welcome to the Sage Port Wildfire Mitigation Committee page. The primary function of this committee is the dissemination of information to our members and neighbors so that we all can make informed and intelligent decisions in balancing our love for our trees and Autumn colors against the need to make our homes and neighborhood as firewise as possible.
IMPORTANT NEWS!
Thanks to the efforts of Scott Holsinger and Mark and Gail Hesse, the HOA has been awarded federal matching funds for our Wildfire Mitigation Project. The competition for these funds was fierce and many applications were simply denied. The entire project will be funded in the amount of $25,500, comprised of $5,000 in-kind dollars from the Larkspur Fire Protection District, $2,500 in-kind matching dollars from Douglas County Public Works, $6,500 in-kind dollars from Sage Port HOA members, $2,500 in funds (aka cash) from the HOA, and $9,000 in cash matching dollars from the federales.
Confused? Don't be. It's really very simple and it basically adds up to free services for the community. The $6,500 of "in-kind" dollars we have to come up with refers to money spent by homeowners in making their lots firewise. We also get to count the many hours we've spent limbing up and otherwise making our properties firewise, and we get to count those hours at $11.38 per hour. The "in-kind" dollars we'll get from the Larkspur Fire Protection District and Douglas County Public Works probably will come in the form of inspections and educational programs and, possibly, slash collection.
The bottom line is that all we need to do is spend $2,500 out of the HOA account and collect receipts and time sheets from our members totaling $6,500, and the feds will cut us a check for $9,000. We'll use the $2,500 in cash we have to pony up, the $9,000 in cash from the feds and all of the in-kind dollars to make our community as firewise as possible.
We need your help. First, we need copies of your receipts and a piece of paper from each of you laying out the hours and days you've put in making your property firewise. Second, we need your ideas on how best to spend this money making our neighborhood the most firewise neighborhood in Colorado. There are a couple of ideas on the table already but more ideas are always welcome.
We welcome your participation. Have you done wildfire mitigation work on your property, or hired some to do the work? If yes, please help the HOA make the community more firewise, and complete the following form and attach copies of your receipts or provide a report of your in-kind hours. (Form completion instructions). Contact the Wildfire Committee Chair or any other member of the committee for more details. Come join in and help us help the community.
